Mitsui Fudosan to open HOTEL THE MITSUI HAKONE in 2026

On November 7th, Mitsui Fudosan announced that in 2026 it will open HOTEL THE MITSUI HAKONE (all-caps on purpose as registered hotel name is in all-caps) in Ashigarashimo District, Kanagawa Prefecture.

This will be the second luxury property under the company’s premier hotel brand, HOTEL THE MITSUI, following the Kyoto location, which opened in November 2020.  


The Hakone hotel site is a 2-minute walk from Kowakidani Station on the Hakone Tozan Railway.

Spanning approximately 135,000 square meters on the former grounds of the Mitsui family’s villa estate, the new structure will have three above-ground floors and two underground floors, with a total floor area of around 23,600 square meters.  


It will feature 126 guest rooms, along with a restaurant, bar, thermal spring, and fitness gym. 


Natural hot springs on the property will supply all guest rooms and the thermal spring facility.  


Rooms will average 60 square meters, with various options available, including villas over 100 square meters and suites exceeding 240 square meters.  


The hotel will be operated by Mitsui Fudosan Resort Management, the group's subsidiary specializing in luxury and resort hotel operations. 


Additionally, Mitsui Fudosan has partnered with Marriott International’s luxury brand, The Luxury Collection, to attract guests from Japan and abroad.
